Following a personal recommendation my mother contacted Paul Ashton to get a section of fencing replaced at her house. The work was to start on Monday 16th January. On Friday 14th received two emails asking us to make a part payment of £1000 for the purchase of materials to enable the work to start. We made the payment but unfortunately on completion of the work me mother, who is in her 80s, gave him a cheque for the full value of the estimate, having forgotten the part payment made. So he was overpaid by £1000. What should be a relatively simple matter to resolve given that all communication was in writing - email - and the bank can confirm the cheque was cashed and the money was transferred as requested is, 6 weeks later, turning into a headache as he clearly does not want to return the money he received in error. Each email has a different story, a different excuse, a different lie. He promised to go to my mother's house at 5pm today to sort it all out and of course never turned up. We will probably have to go to court. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
