Pilrig Nursery

Pilrig Children’s Nursery is a small family-run nursery situated in Pilrig Street, just opposite Pilrig Park. We care for children from 6 months to 5 years and we are in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council for the provision of funded places for 3 to 5 year olds. Jen Hegarty has operated Pilrig Children’s Nursery since it opened in 2014 and previously another nursery in the Meadows area of Edinburgh from 2004 to early 2019. Jen is a qualified primary school teacher and works alongside Kirstie, our nursery manager, and an experienced and enthusiastic team who are all dedicated to providing high quality early learning and childcare. All of our staff are either fully qualified or working towards their qualification. We place a high emphasis on child centred play and outdoor learning with regular trips to various destinations as well as Forest Schools excursions to St Marks Community Woodland and Pilrig Park. We have a large & well stocked garden, providing an adventurous place for young children to explore, play and learn. With easy access to the garden from our bright & sunny playrooms, the children have endless opportunities for high quality play and learning. Due to moving out of the area, our son was only at Pilrig Children's Nursery for 6 months and it was with great regret that we ended his time there! The staff were very caring and supportive of him, and we could tell he learned so much from the other children. His language skills, in particular, became noticeably more developed. He also adores washing his hands with soap now!   The outdoor space is outstanding and something we will really miss when we move on.
