The Auctioneer is one of Carlisle’s most popular places to go for freshly prepared, quality cooked food. We are open seven days a week for lunches and evening meals and are the ideal venue for families and small celebrations.
We are particularly well known for our hearty main courses, using locally sourced beef, lamb and pork, and our tempting homemade sweets. A selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu options is also available.
You can be sure of warm, friendly service in comfortable surroundings with a selection of fine wines and local real ales to complement your food and when the weather's fair we have seating outside by our Lakeland slate water feature.
We also have a lovely function room upstairs which you can book for business events, dinners, lunches, weddings, birthday parties and all kinds of events. Please pop in anytime to have a look at our room.
The function room has a private bar, dance floor, and a self-contained lighting and sound system. There is also a private suite for the benefit of our extra special guests as well as full disabled access to the upstairs room via our lift.

M5 StarOur table was booked for tonight it was extremely busy due to the auction being on that wasn't planned, we were seated quickly at our table and told to order at the bar and food counter when ready, all the staff were all very busy and it got busier by the time we went to order, some of the food they had run out of and this was quickly taken care of by a very polite and helpful member of staff who had also sorted out requests on the phone previously and kindly let us join the drinks que before others waiting, the member of staff who our party would like to thank was called Gavin he is extremely good and has a great manner when dealing with customers. Thank you Gavin for making our night you do a fantastic job, went over and above with a very professional manner and should be proud 👍👏

John Poole5 StarIf you are in the Carlisle area for a visit then I highly recommend The Auctioneer for a range of basic English meals.It was very popular at Sunday lunch and a short queue wait might be necessary. However, this place is excellent value for money and leave room for one of their delicious home made desserts after a most filling main course. The locals love this place..and you will see why when you go there. It's on an industrial estate but don't let that put you off.Sunday 31st July 2022
J mo2 StarFood and atmosphere was great. However, my mother (who has a disability) was approaching the bathroom as child was sick in between the 2 doorways into the facilities. When my mum stuck her head around the corner to ask for help and for someone to hold the door, the 2 waitresses standing just down from the doorway looked at each other and one walked away. The other stayed stood where she was.
A couple of minutes go by and my mother stuck her head out of the door again and shouted me from the doorway to come and help because the girl who was STILL stood there who had been joined by another waitress had not. I rushed over to her as she was desperate for the toilet by this point.
A few more minutes go by and the other girl my mum had asked for help stuck her head in seeing the situation had still not been resolved, left again and I was still stood holding the door.
The grandmother of the child cleaned up the sick and as she finished the manager came in and handled the situation. Overall about a 10 minute s*** show. That the “staff” new about but the customers dealt with.
